Vacancy for Executive Secretary – ASAA Accra Secretariat

This memo is to formally bring to your attention a vacancy for the position of Executive
Secretary at the African Studies Association of Africa (ASAA) Accra Secretariat Office.

The Executive Secretary works closely with the ASAA Secretary and the Executive
Committee and is responsible for managing the Secretariat’s administrative, logistical,
financial, and communication functions. Key duties include coordinating meetings and
events, managing records and correspondence, overseeing association-related travel,
maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information, and supporting ASAA’s visibility
through its website and communication platforms.

The position requires a candidate with a strong administrative background, excellent
communication skills, and the ability to work independently and proactively. A master’s
degree in an Africa Studies–related discipline is preferred, alongside strong IT skills and
proficiency in English. Knowledge of French, prior experience in a similar executive or
administrative role, and familiarity with ASAA activities are considered advantages.

Applicants residing in Accra, Ghana, or who are readily available to work from Accra will be
given preference. Eligible women and ASAA members, particularly those affiliated with the
Carnegie-supported Pan-African Fellowship Programme, are strongly encouraged to apply.
