The Department of History at the University of Chicago invites applicants for an open rank tenure line faculty position in the history of sub-Saharan Africa, beginning on or after July 1, 2023. All time periods and places will be considered, but a focus on eastern Africa is particularly welcome, as is expertise on Anglophone or Lusophone Africa. There is a preference for scholars who employ African languages in their research, and who show a durable, ongoing commitment to the continent.

Qualifications
Candidates must have earned the PhD prior to the start of the appointment.
